    05/06/2008 02:47:52 PM EST
One of the best things about living in New York City is the plethora of artsy activities to explore and participate in. There's a creative energy that permeates the city, something that makes New York such an exciting and unique place to live. Recently, I just learned about a really cool monthly dance series that takes place at The Tank, a performance space for the exporation of non-traditional works by upcoming artists and performers. The series is called "The Raw and the Cooked" and it combines both choreography and improvisation while also incorporating live music and video mixed-media curated by Tatyana Tenenbaum. Find out more about "The Raw and the Cooked" after the jump!

    04/16/2008 12:38:48 PM EST
On April 10, Jon M. Chu, the director of "Step Up 2: The Streets," and the movie's star, Adam Sevani, posted a video blog urging viewers to partake in "the biggest online dance battle in Youtube history." A few days later, Disney star Miley Cyrus and her best friend Mandy Jiroux (with the help of some dance friends) responded to the challenge with their own rendition of Madonna's new single "4 Minutes." Some people are calling the video a spoof, but the girls are defending themselves, telling Eonline.com that it is legitimate. What do you think? Check out Miley and Mandy's response after the jump!

What compels people to dance? What fuels the choreographer's creative vision? Why do most dancers devote their entire lives to this art form? Many artists refer to a spirit within that defines and drives their need to move, to create, to dance. It is this spirit that is explored in the evocative Smithsonian traveling exhibition The Dancer Within
