Shallom Johnson
Washington , DC
My Bio: I am a dancer, choreographer, teacher, visual artist, writer and daydreamer. I am based in Vancouver BC, Canada, and currently working in Washington DC.
An independent contemporary dance artist , my interests lie in performance, choreography, dace education, community engagement and dance/arts journalism. I hold a BFA degree in contemporary dance and english from Simon Fraser University.
I want to make dance that matters, dance that engages audiences on an intellectual, emotional and physical level. I believe that as artists we have a responsibility to use our art to engender critical thought about our art form and the world we live in.
I am always wearing multiple hats, as most artists do. I am Associate Artistic Director of Contradiction Dance (DC), a founding company member of 30Toes (Vancouver) and Echo Park Contemporary Ballet (DC), and I will soon be completing a Fellowship with the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange (MD).
For the past four years, I have been developing and teaching many dance programs for the City of Vancouver and the City of Burnaby.
I also work as a freelance fashion/arts journalist, and have had work published in a variety of online publications. I am currently in the progress of crafting two manuscripts - a book of poetry and a novel for young readers.
