About Me: Matthew is originally from New York. He has earned a degree in dance from Marymount Manhattan College. His experience in dance ranges from theater to classical modern. Musicals tours includes: George M!(Archie/Dance Captain), The Music Man(Linus Dunlop), Oklahoma!(Jesse Chalmers/Dance Captain). He has appeared in several regional productions in New Orleans, where he had the opportunity to work as an assistant for choreographer Edmond Kresley. Other Regional Credits: A Chorus Line (Bobby). Within the concert dance world Matthew has had the opportunity to perform works by Charlotte Griffin, Jose Limón, Mark Morris, and Chet Walker. A career highlight was performing in Anna Sokolow's Memorial at the Joyce Theater in her signature piece Rooms. He can be seen in Avril Lavigne's video "He Wasn't”. He also can be seen dancing in Julie Taymor's musical movie, Across the Universe. Matthew also choreographed the original punk rock musical, Puck: What Fools These Mortals Be, directed by Shawn Rozsa and The Telluride Aids Benefit. Matthew's choreography has been sought out by several dance schools around the country and has won several awards. His work has been seen in the showcases such as Youth American Grand Prix, Fusion, F2: the fourth wall, Peridance's Faculty Showcase and as a special guest in New Dance Group Company's show.

    I had the pleasure of going to the sold out Youth America Grand Prix Gala this past Monday. The first act contained all the winners from the competition. The second act featured prominent ballet and contemporary companies performing. Blah blah blah-- the typical peeps were there and I could go into a review of each piece and the performers. I am totally not going to because there was only one dancer that owned the night. Ivan Vasiliev of the Bolshoi Ballet is my new idol. Jordin Sparks and Kelly Clarkson can step aside. The female dancer, Natalia Osipova, was good but she was clearly dancing in his shadow. I have included a video of their performance of "Flames of Paris." This video is not from the gala but it is the piece they both performed. "Flames of Paris" is part of a four-piece Russian ballet with choreography by Vasily Vainonen. The program listed that Petipa was the choreographer. (Petipa is not the choreographer. Tisk tisk YAGP). After the jump you will find the amazing video of Ivan.
