Roy Orbison and How to Make a Man Cry

Roy Orbison

Roy Orbison

If Roy Orbison's life were to be condensed into a song, it would find itself in close company with the most extreme lyrical songs out there - i.e. "Died in a Car Crash" or "Breathing Underwater." His tragic life (lost four loved ones) led to his writing and he became one of the first real men to sing about crying about a girl. Though it seems somewhat common in a post-Dashboard Confessional day and age, this was a radical step in the early 60's.

Age-Appropriate Lyrical

Every once in a while, a special performer catches your eye at competition and makes your jaw drop. In this case, it's 8-year-old Amanda Ocampo, whose technique is impeccable, and whose movement quality belies her young years. Check out her performance at Kids Artistic Revue in 2006:

Lyrical Reigns Supreme

Download as MP3

The competition season is in full swing. I have worked four weekends in a row and have seen many great tap, ballet, and jazz numbers, but found that lyrical still remains the largest section in the program. What piqued my interest this past weekend was a very good school in New Jersey that used much more subversive music. Dolly Dinkle's Off Beat Dance Blog: The 80's

Dolly Dinkle's Off Beat Dance Blog: The 80's

Hello Y'all........ Dolly Dinkle is here to expose you to the world of off beat dance on the web. Welcome, enjoy my video diary........lets get weird......

Visit my blog each week for the zany, the exotic, the hip, the funny, sometimes most amazing and always the most fun you can have watching dance videos while sitting in front of your computer.

This week: the 80's

Whitney was my very first inspiration and what brought me to dance at an early age. The first, but due to my ability to sleep through anything (including outside the studio on acro mats while a live accompanist plays not last) concert I ever attended and fell asleep during.

Gotta love the Saftey Dance. See if you can get it out of your head or see if you can sing it more than twice in a row without making up your own words. One of my favorite past-times around the house.

Mr. T knows what he is talking about. Always has. Always will. He pities the fool and shouldn't we all? Shouldn't we all.

Well that's it for this week. Check back soon and often for more fun......and let me know if you think I am rad or totally not rad.

Yours in Dance,
Dolly D.
