Ailey II Takes the Stage at the Joyce Theater
2010 NEW YORK SEASON AT THE JOYCE THEATER
APRIL 13 - 22
Ailey II will take the stage at the Joyce Theater April 13 - 22 for seven performances of new choreography and repertory favorites. Ailey II's young dancers are universally renowned for their ability to combine vibrant spirit and elegant style in their passionate stirring performances. Under the artistic direction of Sylvia Waters for the past 35 years, the company continues to awe and inspire audiences across North America. Returning to the Joyce with enthusiastic energy, the company presents: Divining, by Judith Jamison; Essence, by Christopher Huggins; Echoes, by Thang Dao and Proximity, by Carlos dos Santos.

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago Blows into Town
Hubbard Street Dance Chicago dancers
It's been years since I've seen Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, but their performance was not soon forgotten. I saw them in a smaller theater in Albany, NY and thought that each piece they performed was so different from one another, I couldn't quite peg what style company they were. But for the 30 yr. old company, it's not about sticking to one particular area of dance. The choreography is a combination of styles that makes for a smooth fusion of contemporary ballet and modern, while in other pieces a hit of traditional dances from other cultures.
