How To Create Awesome Online Videos to Promote Your Dance Studio Through Social Media
Day 62 in our 90-Day Social Media Success Challenge for Dance Studios...
A friend of mine, who I met through the wonderful world of social media, asked me the other day, "how do you create all of those great YouTube videos?" She wants to begin integrating video marketing into her company's social media marketing campaign, and she's interested in a step-by-step plan for how to create great online videos. So, I decided to write about it, in order to help her, and all of you as well.
If you read this blog regularly, you already know that I am a strong believer in the power of online videos to connect with your customers, make your brand (dance studio) more personal and tangible, and create a powerful online presence. I even suggested 5 ways that you can use videos to promote your dance studio through social media, in a previous blog post, and in a video (http://youtube.com/dancestudiosuccess).
But for today, I will give you the 5 essentials to creating great online videos.
A Virginia Dance Studio's Social Media Success Story!
Today is Day 60 in our 90-day Social Media Success Challenge for Dance Studios, and the 5th installment in our "My Dance Studio's Social Media Success Story Challenge". To see some of the previous success stories, click here, http://kinerenterprisesincblog.com/category/90-day-social-media-success-challenge-for-dance-studioscompanies/my-dance-studios-real-life-social-media-success-story/.
Today's post features a wonderful, growing dance studio in Waynesboro, Virginia, called Old Dominion Performance Arts Studio. Old Dominion Performance Arts Studio is a non-profit organization with the purpose of enriching their community and citizens through the education and training of performance arts. I met the Dance Division Director, Dulcey Fuqua on Facebook, and I've learned some wonderful things about Old Dominion P.A.S. eversince.
Check out their social media success story!

Social Media for Dance Studios - Protecting Your Facebook Privacy
Day #59 in our 90-Day Social Media Success Challenge for Dance Studios...
Facebook privacy has been the topic of conversation for many people over the past 3-6 months, and it's definitely something that you should be aware of to ensure that only certain information, that you choose, is being shared online through Facebook.
The other day, a friend of mine from college sent me a message that said,
"Hi Ashani,
It appears like you are really fb savvy. Do you know how to set the setting to change who can see when you post on fb. I don't necessarily want to notify everyone every-time I post. Thanks!"
JW
This prompted me to send her a reply message teaching her how to set up lists on Facebook. Creating lists is one of the methods you can use to protect your privacy, and only share updates with certain people on Facebook. For my thoughts on why you should have a separate Facebook profile page and fan page for your dance studio, and to learn more about protecting your privacy, please read my previous article, "Social Media for Dance Studios - Using Facebook Wisely". You can go to my profile page here on dance.com to view it.
Here's how to create lists on your Facebook profile page:
The Social Media Marketing Savior for Dance Studios (From the Video Evangelist)
If social media marketing was a church, and I was a preacher, I think I'd be called the video evangelist, because I preach about the significance, effectiveness, and impact of videos all the time. And since I'm a "video evangelist", it's my job to get you to embrace my beliefs. If you don't know a thing about video editing, and don't have the time, energy, or desire to learn about it, then this is a place where you're going to need to spend some of your dance studio's marketing budget. This is crucial!
Here are some new ideas for using video to promote your dance studio. I hope that I will make you a believer.
SYTYCD Costume Critique
Yes, yes, I have been taking a few weeks off from blogging, enjoying the summer in the evenings and weekends. But some of my COSTUME CRITIQUE fans have missed me, and my ruminations. So here I am, glued to my telly, enjoying Cat Deeley and her loverly accent. Yes, I wrote this during-right after the show, but did not have the time to edit and post until now.
Watching past shows and past seasons, I could always count on fun fashion styles from Cat, and cheeky British accents from Cat and Nigel. I was not disappointed tonight!
Costuming for the dance contestants, however, had some bright spots and some very dull spots. Contrary to the opinion in the recent blog titled Costumes-They Can Make or Break You-costumes DO matter. The blogger suggests that costumes are annoying, where I believe they CAN make or break your performance.
Especially for those of us who are looking to be entertained, and may or may not be able to spot all the nuances in a great versus super-great dance performance. I do understand that if you are passionate about your craft and art of dancing and choreography, you may feel that costumes are not important-the pure dance moves are what should be important.
BUT remember that SYTYCD and other television reality shows have millions of viewers, and a good share of them are looking to be entertained, as are MOST audience members. So, bring on the costuming!
