Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet to Perform Cherkaoui World Premiere at Jacob's Pillow in July

Jacob's Pillow has announced that Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet will perform the highly anticipated world premiere of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui's "Orbo Novo," July 8 - 12 in the Ted Shawn Theatre. Cherkaoui, of Belgium, is one of Europe's most in-demand dancemakers, known for his intensely eclectic movement style and a unique repertory that deals with connections and divisions among cultures. The New York Times anticipates "Orbo Novo," performed to live music at the Pillow, as "one of the most exciting events of the new season."

The Pillow's full season will be announced in February and tickets go on sale to the public in April. For more information visit www.jacobspillow.org.

Cedar Lake Part II: The Big Bang

Picture this: A ball of fire-y energy, well, for visual aid, lets say, the sun is floating in the sky.  Upon closer inspection, you see that what you thought was fire-y lava shooting off of this bright sun is actually human body parts such as hands, feet and heads, moving with such kinetic force that they are leaving traces behind...easily mistaken for sun rays from afar.

Here comes an asteroid, and, bam!, the asteroid and the fire-y energy body part ball collide, exploding into millions of pieces. Well, no, the asteroid bursts into millions of pieces, but our curious, fire-y ball bursts into sixteen pieces. This is what you call a big bang; a bang leading to not just life, but beautiful, creatures, who continue to possess the characteristics of their former life as a fire ball of energy. These characteristics include internal and external explosions caused by the searing temperatures. Even though this force of energy has experienced fission, the separate flesh covered pieces of energy are still fused metaphysically by the same energy force that initially connected them physically earlier in life.

Cedar Lake Spring Season

Hey y'all. Last night I went to the opening night of Cedar Lake's spring season. The performances continue through June 15th. Cedar Lake has it's own theater at 547 W. 26th Street (between 10th and 11th avenues)

Ticket's are $30. If you are a student or a senior you can get $20 tickets. A portion of the proceeds from each ticket will benefit Career Transition for Dancers.

I will be posting a review and some of my thoughts on the company later. If you are interested in contemporary dance then this is a company you should see.
