BEings: New Dancers and New Projects
I would like to begin by extending the warmest welcome to our two new dancers: Jessica Chou and Stacey Perkinson. They are both wonderful additions to the company and did a great job performing at the 60x60 Dance show at the World Financial Centers Winter Garden. The video of our minute long piece will be up on Dancer Flix so be sure to check that out as well as being up on YouTube!
BEings has been quite busy lately. Aside from having three shows this past weekend, we are now rehearsing at the FAR Space, courtesy of a space grant through The Field. It is so great being able to have consistent biweekly rehearsals in such a beautiful space. Right now, we are working on a few new things, one of which made a few of the dancers somewhat squeamish. It is a lot harder than some would think to sit down with a piece of paper and write down your thoughts; which is what I asked those in this piece to do. I am not going to give away in entirety what the piece is about, but I am sure it is going to be a very interesting process working through it. Just so you know that I am fair though, I also sat down with a pen and paper and wrote; I would not expect the dancers to do something I would not be willing to do myself. That is NOT fair!
Lots more after the jump!
BEings: Works in Progress Series - Tomorrow!
The Works in Progress Series at Dance New Amsterdam is officially tomorrow (September 20th, 5:30pm, be there!). I have been talking about this show in the blog for a few weeks now, so as you can probably imagine my miniature anxiety attack about how it is going to go started up late last night at rehearsal. Those who know me know that I have the utmost faith that the show will be fine, but until the show actually IS fine I turn into an Emily blob of anxiety. I do not know how others handle their stress, but that is pretty much how mine goes on the day of a show. So anyway, the things that have been happening to prepare for tomorrows show; a fire alarm, the wrong shorts, and very sleepy people.
BEings: The Importance of Support
Support: there are so many different kinds of support that you need as a person/artist. We need financial support, moral support, etc etc. Finding that support can sometimes be very difficult. Financial support, especially, is often very hard to come by. Moral support, while still often difficult to find, is incredibly beneficial as we step into our chosen roles.
BEings: In Dance We Trust!
Hi all, so let me first say that life is so hectic in that crazy good kind of way. The Works in Progress show at Dance new Amsterdam is coming up so soon so we will be rehearsing a lot in the coming week and a half.
BEings: Dancer Introduction - Missy Wujek
I know I said a dancer a day, so please allow me to apologize as the last few days have been very hectic and I have not been able to post. Today allow me to introduce Missy, a bikram yoga addict/candy eating/math loving member of BEings.
Missy Wujek grew up dancing at The Dance Center in LaSalle, Illinois.
BEings: Dancer Introduction - Philip Northington
What is that saying about an apple a day keeping the doctor away? Well how about a DANCER a day, a BEings dancer more specifically! Please get to know Philip Northington!
BEings: Dancer Introduction - Molly Weitz
Please allow me to introduce to you Molly Weitz. As a senior in high school, she is the youngest member of BEings. She is a very accomplished dancer for her young age!
Molly began her dance training at the age of eight at the Lumiere Ballet School on Long Island. She trained for eight years in classical ballet under the direction of Svetlana Caton-Noble and Venti Petrov.
