I know I theme a lot of my blogs around some sort of cliche or saying.  Well, there is a reason they are popular sayings; many of them prove to be true.  So in this case, I would like to talk about strength in its various forms.

There are many kinds of strength that come into play as a dancer; physical and mental coming to mind very quickly.  Probably the most important though, Strength of Character!

Who are you?!  Well, if no one has told you already, please allow me to be the first.  Who YOU are is very important!

Lots more after the jump!

I am going to give you a long list of adjectives, this is not saying any of you who read this are or are not any of these things, but it is a list of things that I hope to be (maybe some days I am more of them than others); but in my book of qualities, these are important ones!

BE reliable, respectable, responsible, hard working, kind, generous, sympathetic, empathetic, understanding, likeable, altruistic, inspired, inspiring, HONEST!  I could give you description words for days (I love adjectives!), but at the end of your day; how many of these things have you been?

I also think, however, that in order to become this kind of person, you have to be taught by these kind of people.  (yes, to my teachers, here is your shout out)  Sincerely though, if you are taught by people who maintain these qualities, they are going to be passed down.  Many aspects of your character as a dancer is taught!  Choose who you train with wisely!

As artists (dancers, choreographers, teachers, students, parents, enthusiasts; we all fit into the category),  it is important to have the strength of character to be able to maintain at least several of those qualities at all times because that is what makes you, YOU!

In closing, I would like to also leave you with this (something that has been instilled in me by many of my teachers and those I look up to).  People want to work with people who are EASY to work with; reliable, likeable, talented people.

And finally, my own two cents on something I feel is very important.  ALWAYS, no matter what, say thank you for class; it is always the right thing to do, whether you have been reemed out for your timing that day or not!  (my own little personal dancing school issue)
