Capezio A.C.E Awards

This past week I competed my choreography in the Capezio A.C.E Awards in NYC.  I brought in 10 dancers, some I had worked with, some I hadn't.  They learned a four minute piece in two days, and rehearsed it three times on their own, (as I was in L.A. on another job)

What was so remarkable, was that they took my choreography, and my ideas, and made it into something that far exceeded my expectations.  These dancers are not professionals yet.  Some are teenage comp kids, some are college dance majors.  But I would hire them in a second, once they decide what paths they want to take in their dance careers.

This is the perfect example of how performance, presence, and commitment is far more important than technique. (Don't freak out bloggers, i'm not saying that a dancer shouldn't have technique! ballet ballet ballet!)

In all, thank you to my dancers, for completely turning me into a softy.  You have no idea how proud I am of you!

I wish we would have won.
But you can't win them all, and everything happens for a reason.  I'm patiently perservering, and waiting for my turn, and I am looking forward to the day that I can hire you where there is a budget!
