(inner)views

I-VII is a lens into the LGBTQ community of New York City. Choreographer Janessa Clark combines dance, film and music for an evening-length work that invites audiences into the lives of queer women. The film features seven individuals of diverse backgrounds who share their on-screen stories in order to provide honest and uninhibited perspectives on the question of sexual identity. Against this backdrop is the sensual and emotionally flavored movement that has been created for three dancers. (inner)views I-VII is accompanied by the soulful, live music of singer/songwriter Ganessa James. Her rich, aural textures will include original music and several covers that express love, life, and pride.

This is an invitation to experience the challenges and pleasures of being out and gay in contemporary America. A journey of discovery since its inception in 2005, (inner)views I-VII playfully pokes at queer stereotypes and attempts to bring awareness to the issues surrounding sexuality and gender. There is something for everyone in this work. Come share yourself with us. Come celebrate diversity with us. Identity goes beyond labels.

Fresh from an extended, sold-out run in San Francisco, trailblazer Sean Dorsey and a stellar cast of dancers are ready to chase the naked truth in Uncovered: The Diary Project in New York.

The critically acclaimed concert is the culmination of a year-and-a-half long research process in which Dorsey uncovered and researched diaries of transgender and queer people â€" from the famous to the unknown. Uncovered features the world premiere of Lou, a suite of dances based on the lifelong journals of Lou Sullivan (1951-1991), a San Francisco transsexual gay man and pioneering activist; and the story of an imaginary boyhood based on a very real diary.  Uncovered offers an evening of full-bodied, powerful dances honoring remarkable life stories.

Using text from actual, real-life diaries, Uncoveredâ€TMs powerful dances reveal lives and stories that history has tried to erase.  Out spill diary secrets, bathhouse antics, outrageous love, pop idols, misadventures, impossible courage and the importance of documenting and sharing our history.

Sean Dorsey Dance was just named San Francisco's "Best Dance/Performance Company" by the SF Weekly!

Dorsey's Uncovered: the Diary Project features a prologue written and performed specifically for the New York production by Kate Bornstein!
