After a financially tough year on Broadway, "Billy Elliot", the story of a boy from a poor coal-mining town with a gift for dance, leads the pack with 15 Tony nominations. Pretty good considering 43 shows were eligible!

Nominations for this years Tony awards were announced Tuesday, with the new musical "Next to Normal" coming in 2nd place with 11 nominations. With 'Billy' and 'Normal' going head to head in 10 categories, voters have a strong contrast between the uplifting, feel-good story of 'Billy' and the much more adult 'Normal'. Lead producer of "Billy Elliot" Eric Fellner said he felt that 'Billy' had the right message at the right time, after a year when many Broadway marquees went dark.
