DWTS-Week 9 (Oh no, I missed Week 8!)
Did you miss me, and my sassy comments last week? Or, did you enjoy not having to read about my continued annoyance with the orange-nude supposedly invisible, elastic straps that hold up too many of the Dancing With the Stars costumes?
Well, I was ON VACATION and I was no where near a television set during DWTS-Week 8.
Where was I? I was traveling to my favorite-New York City, on Monday, and on Tuesday during the recap-vote off, I was on Broadway, watching Wicked! What a fabulous musical-I LOVED it!
So, I cannot say I am sad that I missed Week 8. OK, I DID miss it, but I am thrilled that I was able to finally see all those fabulous costumes from Wicked. Yes, I also loved the singing and dancing!
My other New York VACATION activities?
I met with the Director of Entertainment-Michelle and her assistant-Danielle from the Knicks City Dancers, to discuss designs for their upcoming fall, NBA dance team season. I also met with Diana Warner, the jewelry designer that we have been working with on corporate promotional costumes for spokes-models and dancers for high profile events in New York and other venues. What fun to see her studio and finally put her face to her voice!
Even though I only had a day and a half in my favorite city, I was able to spend several hours in the garment district, connecting with my fabric and trim suppliers. I have many new swatch cards that I lugged home with me!
Then on to the REAL part of my vacation! We boarded the Amtrak Silver Star and traveled from Penn Station to the train station at Tampa, Florida. My husband and I then spent 3 gorgeous days at the beach. We stayed at our favorite Old-School resort on the sleepy Anna Maria Island, just a few steps from the white sandy beaches along the Gulf of Mexico. Thanks to lots of sunscreen, no sun burning occurred!
I was home in time to see this weeks Dancing With the Stars! In watching tonight, I have caught a glimpse of most of the costumes from last weeks show. But, not enough to really study and critique them, so I will just say that Lil Kim had a classy gown, Cheryl and Gilles had fun, cute costumes, and there seemed to be lots of fringe on most of the other costumes!
No more Julianne and Chuck, and now tonight, WOW, a huge shocker-Lil Kim and Derek will not be back next week. We all know that she was a better dancer than Ty, but I guess the rodeo cowboy had a huge following. Now do not get mad-just realize it IS a popularity contest after all.
Back to the costuming, the reason for this blog. I really enjoyed both of the sets of red ballroom costumes worn by the professionals to illustrate the ballroom dances, and the blue costumes that illustrated the Latin dances. All of these were great.
All the competitors had to perform 2 dances this week, with many dance styles for us to see. My favorite dresses were worn by Lil Kim-the gold-nude fringed Salsa costume, Shawn-the Paso Doble red-black dress with the funky feathers on the upper front bodice, Cheryl-leopard printed Fox Trot dress with red trim, and Melissa-the blue Samba costume with the criss-cross detailing and old-school ruffles.
I hated the plain blue shirt and overly baggy pant that Ty wore for his Rumba and the glitzy suspenders and untied bow tie that Tony wore for Melissas Samba. The accessories overlapped and looked like a jumbled up mess. Most of the lady costumes scored 8 and above with me. There was not a standout guys outfit, but the double-breasted suit worn by Ty for his Argentine Tango was a huge step up from his sad Rumba outfit.
There were many stunning costumes on the extra performers in tonights show. My favorite was Lisa Rinnas costume with the tear-off skirt. Loved the surprise and loved the colors and visual flow of this costume!
I look forward to all the costumes in the semi-finals next week. Are you with me?
