DWTS-Season 8:The FINAL Costume Critique!
OMG, its my birthday today! After a challenging day at Satin Stitches, I had to stop at the Post Office to drop off some eBay packages before I could come home, change and go out with my husband, to my favorite Minneapolis restaurant for dinner. The restaurant is called Erte, after one of my favorite graphic and costume designers of all time, and they have great food!
We had a really good dinner, but the best is yet to come! With my remote control handy, and my tape in the recorder, I am settled down to watch some exciting television! I just caught the last few minutes of American Idol to see my fav-Adam sing, while now switching it back to see Lady GaGa performing in a fun, funky one-legged unitard with, dare I say-huge shoulder pads and a 3-D zippered butterfly on Dancing With the Stars, of course!
Since I have not been able to be two places at once, and I do not have a screen in screen television, I will now concentrate on the Finals.
Then, just to make it more difficult, a new musical drama is premiering today-right now, in fact. Glee, is a show about Show Choir!-A MUST watch. I will replay my tape of that show, after I watch American Idol sometime.
Whew! I am sure there is a serious drought coming this summer, for television excitement, but it does NOT get much better than this. Yes, I know I will enjoy-So You Think You Can Dance, but I have to check the listings to see when it will be on.
I am enjoying seeing all the contestants from this season on DWTS, reprise their dances. It seems so long ago, that it started! So many dances and so many glitz costumes! It was a fun season, so lets get on with last nights costume critique, before we find out tonights winner!
Starting out with the Pablo Doble, it was interesting to see three different takes on the same dance, with their choreography and then the accompanying costuming, all on the same stage at the same time.
I loved one of the costume pairs, hated one, and thought one pair was so-so. How do you feel? Melissa and Tony looked incredible! With their sassy, dramatic, leather-trimmed, futuristic costumes, they were dynamite! Melissas duster-coat, lined in red was truly dynamic. Her glitz black bra and briefs were sexy-hot. Tony was maybe the best I have seen him, with his very masculine Star Trek-esque jacket and pant ensemble. Bravo Randall!
But both of the other guys were too sissy-garish for my taste, in their lace appliques on their traditional matador bolero jackets. Not a fan of either look!
Their ladies did not impress me, either. Cheryls top was uniquely cut, and her skirt was cut well and moved nicely. But I did not care for the colors used. Different colors in the same style could have made it much more elegant. It did NOT look elegant. Shawns dress was really boring, not very elegant, and made her look short and sort of frumpy. I was really disappointed!
I was really looking forward to the freestyle part of the competition. The dancing was dynamite, but the costuming was lackluster. I am hoping that was on purpose, so that we could concentrate on the dancing, which is not a bad plan.
Shawn and Marks opening outfit was fun, with the rhinestoned masks and black warm-ups. They were removed, to reveal Marks signature Geek outfit, with bright green jacket, white shirt, bow-tie and short pants, showing white sox and Keds hightops. Oh, and dorky glasses.
Shawn had a fun Zebra black and green, rhinestoned bra-top with glitzy suspenders and high-rise black pants. She did some amazing tricks, making her costume very suitable for her routine. It did not get in the way. Sleek and tailored.
Sleek and tailored definitely did NOT describe Melissa freestyle routine. She chose a hip-hop outfit that fit her hip-hop routine, with zippers, chains and metal details. Ho-hum, for hip-hop.
Tony looked pretty good in his hip-hop outfit, with his foiled sheer mesh, tight-T shirt and zipper and chain trimmed pants. I think because it was tight enough, not the usual hip-hop duds!
I was hopeful that I would be thrilled with Cheryl and Gilles. Well, not so much! Gilles looks good in anything, but with his ripped and stoned T-shirt and jeans, he was a little boring. The 80s are back, right? Cheryl nearly always looks good, and her hot pink rhinestoned, ripped dolman-sleeved dress was suitable for their music and routine. I am not always a fan of the simply suitable.
All three couples rated about the same. Suitable costumes, adequate costumes, but nothing really spectacular. How did you feel about their dancing? I think I preferred some of the previous dance routines to this weeks freestyles, but they did great, right?
It has been a fun season, and I am enjoying the reminiscing with seeing all of the contestants. Both the professional dancers and the celebrity sort of-stars. We have all had our favorites, and they kept it entertaining, again this season. Thank you! Who is the winner? All of us, for getting involved with all the fun personalities that we grew to enjoy!
It has been a fun birthday!
