Who gets to take home trophies from competitions?

I was just wondering in general, who gets to take the trophies dancers win at dance competitions?

We've participated in competitions for 2 years now with the same studio.  The owner/teacher told us that the studio gets the trophies that are won at the competitions.

My daughter dances solo dances and has won several trophies.  It kills her to hand them over to the teacher and I'm tired of paying to buy duplicates (sometimes up to $85 for one dance).

I can sort of understand where the studio would get them, but also on the other hand think it's sort of silly to gather so many trophies.  How many can really be on display?

I just wondered if this was an industry standard or something only our studio does?  Sometimes I wonder about things our SO does...

Thanks for your help!

I Agree

When I did competitions I always took home my trophies for solos. The studio kept duo, trio and group trophies.

Comp. Trophies

Studio Owner lets the dancers keep their trophies that they've won. She just ask that you bring them in for like to weeks to show the other students. We leave them all at studio. Dance daughter has her own shelf in the studio. I don't really want them at home because its just more for me to dust. Besides, what are you gonna do with all of those trophies once you move on or stop competiting.

Keepsakes

I guess it really depends on how meaningful the trophies are to you and your child... I didn't do that many competitions because I switched to a ballet academy at the age of 12, so my trophies were very special and my mom always displayed them proudly in our home. I believe that trophies are not only great keepsakes, but are also symbolic of the hard work and dedication that young dancers put into competing. One day a dancer may even like to pass them down to his or her children. My mom did pageants and kept all of her trophies and tiaras - I LOVED playing with them when I was little. That's why I think dancers should take home their trophies and awards for solo routines.

Dance Trophies

Hi I just wanted to comment on the question re:  Do dancers get to keep their trophies.  In our dance studio the dancers keep every trophy and medal they win - nothing goes to the studio.  I don't see the point of trophies going to the studio anyway, the dancer has earned the trophy and the studio can put up photographs of all the dancers with their trophies on the day they won them - the dancer needs the motivation of seeing everything they have won.
