Owen's Competition Corner

I'm blogging, can't believe it. The emotion I feel is hearing the song from Peter Pan, I'm flying...I'm blogging.
Since I attend so many competitions, I'm hoping it will be of interest to some of you where I've been this season and where I will be.

Competitions, Conventions, and their directors, are so important because they provide dancers with many opportunities to dance, rehearse, and learn their craft. But first they must take many, many, classes, and remember, ballet is the back bone of all dance training.

This coming weekend I will be attending American Dance Awards at BCC North Campus Omni Arena in Coconut Creek, Fla. I always look forward to seeing Gloria Jean and Bobby.
Also, over the weekend, I'll be dropping in on Dance USA in Hollywood, and spend some time with Tiffanie and her family.

Saturday night, we're going to see Miami City Ballet, Florida's internationally acclaimed ballet company. I'm attending with ballet teacher/choreographer/judge Liana Navarro, her daughter Daryli now a nurse at Miami Children's Hospital, and her former student 14 year old Natalie Jimenez, a scholarship student at Miami City Ballet School. Natalie attends during the year and summers. She has really caught the eye of Edward Villella.

Seeing Miami City Ballet with Liana is always a liitle bit extra special treat, because her former students, Patricia and Jeanette Delgado are two of MCB's etoilles. They are sisters who I have known, through Liana, for 19 years. I kinda', sorta', watched them grow up and become the very accomplished dancers they are,as well as incredible young women.

In past weeks I've attended DanceXplosion, Nexstar... spent some time with Kent Helton, Star Systems spending time with Marcy Tuttle, and David Sanders of Legacy, Darryl Fink of Hall Of Fame, Showbiz without Darin Troglia for the first time. Be well, my friend...we all love you.
Spent time with Irma Zeigler of Headliners, Chris Smith of Hollywood Vibe, and his wife.
At Nexstar, I had a nice meeting with Robin Dawn. She has so many great ideas and I'm happy to report that Robin is going to be a featured blogger on this here site. Boy, are we happy. Robin is also a member of the Dancer Magazine Advisory Board.

Well, that's it for my first blog.
Happy competition trails to you.

Owen
