Owen's Competition Corner

Welcome back to the O-ZONE

I was so excited to be going to New York City on April 21 for the tenth anniversary of the Youth America Grand Prix, that I forgot to post about the competitions I attended the weekend of April 18-19.

Got to spend a little time with Steve Wappel of Starquest, even though Steve was very busy running props backstage. Steve called the next day when he had more time, but then I was splitting time at Thrive and Adrenaline.

After leaving Starquest on Saturday, the 18th, I went to the Florida Dance Masters title competitions.
Got to see Miss and Mr. Dance, and Miss Teen. and Mr. Teen Dance Competitions. The events were hosted by Valerie Weld, School of Dance Arts...a very good friend.

On Sunday, the 19th, we spent some time at Thrive, a new convention/competition company in its second year.
Met Mike Larkin who with his aunt Kelley Larkin are the owners of Thrive with Steve Caricato. Steve introduced himself and went on to tell me their plans for the future.
After Thrive we went over to the Adrenaline and spent time with Jeremy Keeton and Matthias.

Fast forward back to NYC and YAGP, which has become a premium competition. The dancers were wonderful and the gala marvelous.
While in New York, we were fortunate enough to see Chase Brock Experience, a three year old dance company destined for a place at the world dance table. They were truly great.
The dancers , choreography, and concepts of Chase Brock were truly engaging. I'm predicting big things for this company. An added bonus is Ashley Eichbauer, who is an advertising sales manager for
Dancer Magazine.

A parting note:
At the Bad Boys of Dance show on April 11, Manny Soto of Dancetown was there to see one of his students, Chris McCarthy, performed.
Chris was discovered by Adrienne Canterna at a Wild Convention in one of her classes. You never know where that big break will come from.

Happy dance trails.
Owen
