Poll

What do you think is the most important thing to do when teaching students to keep them interested?
Play games while dancing.
Be very, very strict.
Be friends with your students.
Ask for the students' opinion.
Have a star system. (They earn a star for every class that they don't get in trouble.)
Any snack you find that kids will like. (candy, chips, cookies, soda)
only healthy snacks (granola bars, PLAIN chex mix)
Yell, yell, yell to get your point across.
No talking...EVER!
Only water aloud.

Balance Required

Just like raising children -- in teaching children, it is important to find the balance between fun and discipline.  Students must enjoy learning dance (or they'll quit), but understand that it is important to work hard to improve (but not so much that they don't enjoy it).  Creating games to help students learn is a great way to get their attention.  It's also important to smile, make eye contact, use the 'power of touch' (take a student by the hand, pat their shoulder, etc...), and use voice inflections or character voices to get their attention.
