Want to be featured in Dancer Magazine? Enter our new online video dance contest!

Every month, you'll have the opportunity to upload videos of you performing original choreography in different dance genres. At the end of the month, the video with the most hits wins! The winner will be contacted by Dancer Magazine editors and then featured in the next issue. It's that easy!

After the jump, you'll find a list of the dance style we'd like to see each month with some examples to get your creative energies flowing.

February: Tap, i.e. Broadway style, rhythm tap, hoofing

March: Dance Team, i.e. pom-pon, cheer, color guard, twirling, drill,
high school team

April: Commercial Dance, i.e. music video style, L.A./Hollywood choreography

May: Fringe Dance, i.e. Cirque du Soleil inspired dances, innovative
and experimental dance, incorporating technology and mixed media,
mixed genres

June: Contemporary Ballet, i.e. mixing ballet and modern dance
influences, innovative pointe work, innovative partnering and lifts

July: Hip-Hop, i.e. street funk, break dancing, popping, locking, krumping

August: Jazz, i.e. Fosse inspired, Broadway and musical theater,
modern jazz, L.A./street jazz, lyrical

September: Little Dancers, i.e. baby ballerinas, little tappers, hip-hop kids

October: Classical Ballet, i.e. tutus, tiaras and pointe shoes,
classical variations

November: Social Dance, i.e. Tango, ballroom, Salsa, anything with a partner

December: Modern Dance, i.e. Martha Graham inspired choreography, postmodern and pedestrian movement

Guidelines for Submission:

1) Submissions must be in the appropriate dance genre to be considered, i.e. during the month of February, eligible videos must contain TAP choreography

2) The deadline for submission is the last day of every month. So if you wish to submit a video for TAP, for example, you may do so between February 1 and February 28.

3) Submissions must include dancers' names, studio name and location, name of the choreographer and title of the work

4) If the choreography in the video is not yours, you must have the choreographer's permission to post the video and you must credit that choreographer accordingly.

5) Videos can be solos, duos, trios or groups - there is no limit on the number of dancers

6) Footage can be from anywhere - recital, competition, concert/performance or rehearsal in the studio

7) No inappropriate material please

cultural/folk dance?

I was wondering if you had a cultural or folk dance category, or something that would include Raks Sharqi, belly dance, Oriental dance... Is this an art form that you'd be interested in featuring? I don't see it included on any of the lists.
