Hello Dancer Readers!

I'm so happy to announce that I am now a permanent member of the Dancer Publishing team!

Here is the story of how I became Editor at Large.

Like many of you dancers out there, I first met Owen Goldman, the original mastermind behind Dancer Magazine, at a competition when I was just 11 years old. My senior year of high school, when I realized that editorial writing and production was my calling, I became a contributing writer.  When I went away to study Political Science and Dance at Columbia University in the fall of 2002, many of you were right there with me every step of the way as I documented the ups and downs of college life in my column "Life with Lindsay." Through "Life with Lindsay," I was able to form lasting relationships with Dancer's 30,000 + readers while also solidifying my relationship with the amazing Dancer Publishing team.

After college, I secured a job with CBS Television Distribution working on the nationally syndicated television newsmagazine Inside Edition and the Rachael Ray show. I spent 2 years researching and vetting day-of-air and pre-taped scripts, promotional material, and website in an extremely fast paced, high stress environment. The time I spent working for CBS was beyond invaluable; I learned the fundamentals of news production while also understanding what it meant to be part of a team. Although I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, I knew it would be ephemeral; my heart was still in the performing arts, no matter how hard I tried to ignore it.

So after 2 years, I grew restless and began seeking out other opportunities. And of course, Dancer was there at the top of my list. When I was offered the job as Editor at Large, I jumped on it. Some people have asked me why I would leave a position with a major news corporation and the answer is simple: passion. I'm passionate about dance in all of its forms and can't think of a better way to spend each day than connecting with people who share that love. Furthermore, I learned that the corporate world is just not for me. At Dancer, I love being able to actually see results from my hard work and dedication. It makes the experience so much more worthwhile and fulfilling.

As Dancer's Editor at Large, I will be an integral part of both the magazine and the website, writing and editing content, generating story ideas with Laura, producing and hosting original Dancer Universe videos, and attending and reporting on the hottest dance industry events in NYC. Also, I will be updating my blog on DancerUniverse.com more regularly.

It is my sincere hope that I become friends with all of you Dancer readers out there, whether you live right around the corner from me in New York City or on the other side of the world. Don't hesitate to email me if there's something you'd like to see on "Lindsay Live"  or if there is a topic you'd love to read about in the magazine. I look forward to hearing from you!

In the meantime, Happy Dancing!

Your friend at Dancer Publishing, Lindsay Dreyer

Great news!

Hey Lindsay. Congratulations! You sound very happy, and we are all happy for you. I'm glad to see you'll be popping up more on the blog, too. You've always got great, interesting posts. Congrats again!

Congratulations!

That's a great story.  Any advice for me, a struggling freelance writer whose danced and choreographed most of my life?  I've written some blogs here, articles for Helium and Associated Content as well as an education blog.  I guess I'll keep writing until someone discovers me. (Ha, HA)
