I'm Back!

Drums of the Pacific luau in Maui

Hey guys! I'm finally back on the blog, after a short pause for a most beautiful wedding in Boston, MA. My husband (whoah) and I had an amazing time with family and friends who were, not surprisingly, all out on the dance floor. Then, we jetted off to gorgeous Maui, Hawaii, where we lounged by the beach, hiked in the West Maui Mountains, and ate at fabulous, romantic restaurants each night. Funny enough, even on a two-week vacation, I couldn't escape dance.

Before you read on the hear about our awesome luau experience, make sure you check out Dancer Magazine's Year in Review at http://2008.danceruniverse.com. The page should be live in the next couple of days!

On one of the final nights of our honeymoon, Alex and I attended the Drums of the Pacific luau at our hotel, the Hyatt Regency. I've been to a couple luaus before on the Big Island of Hawaii, but I heard this particular show was one of the best on the islands. Luckily for us, the rumors were true. The women were flawlessly beautiful and graceful as they swayed their hips in the warm Maui breeze. The men were energetic and entertaining: They slapped their knees, danced with spears, and yelled out ancient Tahitian chants. The most showstopping routine, however, was undoubtedly the Samoan fire dance. One Hawaiian dancer took to the stage and twirled a fire baton, tossing it in the air, behind his back and under his legs. At one point, he laid down on the ground and held the still-lit baton on his feet. Another time, he actually ate the fire! Pretty darn impressive.

At any rate, although Maui was beautiful, by the end of the trip, Alex and I were ready to come home. I'm now attending Stanford University's graduate program in journalism, but will continue to update the blog regularly. It's good to be back!
