Best Dance Logos

Creating a logo for your dance company, classes or studio can be more than just putting the name in a cool type face. Here's some visual inspiration that can get get you going on what great branding can be. This is a first in a series of top 10 lists on design for dance-- enjoy!

10) So You Think You Can Dance
Surprisingly active, cool, and recognizable for something so commercial as Fox's hit reality show.
9) Chicago
The only Broadway musical to make the list, Chicago has become instantly recognizable shows for its sexy black + white photography and bold, red type.
8) Alvin Ailey
Even though it was created more than 20 years ago by C&G Partners, this poster became the entire identity for Ailey, and is still one of the most recognizable.
7) New York City Ballet
Modern, stripped down, classic yet unexpected.
6) Ballet Tech
Still modern, smart, and graphic. And because Paula Scher can't make the list too many times.
5) Holland Dance Festival
With a dynamic, alternating typographic logo, this has one of the strongest "looks" of any dance festival today.
4) Bringin' da Noise, Bringin' da Funk
Not so much a logo as a general identity, this style making poster was one of the most influential pieces of design of the 90's.
3) Sydney Dance Company
One of the most brilliant typographic plays I've seen in awhile, plus beautiful interaction of the dancer with the type.
2) Forsythe Company
A beautiful interaction of type with dancers to create a logo in constant movement.
1) Het Nationale Ballet
Great use of all-white, modern type and blocky logo to tie together equally beautiful but completely different images. LOVE IT!

I hope you enjoyed my list, but remember, nothing can replace a skilled graphic designer when it comes to creating professional logos, posters and promotional materials for your studio. Hopefully this list will excite and inspire you about what design can do for dance.
Questions? Comments? Did I left something out? I'm always open to discuss!
