BEings: The Great Thing About Opinions...

they swing both ways!  As you know we had our performance this past Saturday, and it went incredibly well; yay!  The great thing about the performance at DNA is that it enables the audience to talk to the choreographer after the pieces, as well as writing notes that I got back after the show.  It is all subjective based on what they did and did not like.  The absolute best part is that some people loved it, and others hated it!  It was great!!!

So yea, first off, thanks to everyone who came; friends, family, teachers, the works; we appreciated having you there, and your feedback.   We appreciate constructive criticism very much, but unless that is what you have to offer as a viewer, keep your mouth shut!  Rude is never in style; ever.

Constructive criticism and feedback is, however, a great learning tool.  Some of what the audience gave me as food for thought was really awesome!  The moderator, Rebecca, had some great ideas of how to play around with the piece. One viewer very interestingly asked me if the piece was gender neutral (keeping in mind that it is 3 girls and 1 guy).  My immediate response was that it is gender neutral but if you replaced Philip with a girl it no longer would be.  Clearly that statement right there, without being thought through before blurting, proves that in my head the piece is not gender neutral.  That brought about a slight laugh which was much needed in the quiet room; you could have heard a pin drop and it was incredibly nerve wracking to be sitting on the panel in front of these people in dead silence!
After the chat the show was over.  I can honestly say I was very relieved and looking forward to getting the written feedback.  When I receieved the note cards I was so pleased that the audience got it.  I will give you a few things that got said; good and bad to make it fair.

'The piece seemed to be about trust; sometimes the person leading you will turn around and try to make you fall.'

'Interesting if they were truly in blindfolds.'  In response to this, the dancers are in blindfolds that do inhibit their vision, but are not comletely opaque.  They are there mainly to get the point of the piece across.

'Dancers were clean; nice lines.' My personal favorite; probably because I really like technique (just ask any of my teachers!)

The video is done and waiting to be picked up so look for it up on DancerFlix very soon!
