Dance Orgs You Should Know

Hey Y'all -
Are you a choreographer?  Are you the director of your own dance company?  Are you a teacher trying to make a project come to life?  Here are a few organizations you should know about (especially if you live in NY):

The New York Foundation for the Arts
They have an excellent job listings page.  They give out money to NY artists, and have an "opportunities" page listing other organizations who support artists, as well. NYFA is the largest provider of grants, services, and information to artists working in all disciplines in the United States.

DanceNYC
I used to work in the DanceNYC office - one of the things they do is lease subsidized office space for dance organizations - and they are great.  They also have a job listings page that is great.  If you live in NY, they have lots of events and panel discussions, which I highly recommend.

The Foundation Center
Another resource for finding grant money - an essential step for dance companies and independent artists working to make a project happen.  Foundation Center is the nation's leading authority on philanthropy, connecting nonprofits and the grantmakers.

Also, no matter where you are, check on arts grants given out by your state.  You can apply to many of them through a fiscal sponsor (check www.thefield.org or www.fracturedatlas.org for more info on that).

Good luck with all of your endeavors!

Laura
