Teach-a-thon: Questions
Some questions about the upcoming Teach-a-thon at Dance Advantage have been raised and I thought I would address them here in case others have been wondering the same things.
- What kind of posts are you looking for? I've purposefully left this very open so that a wide variety of dance topics and styles may be covered. Your post could be about anything that might benefit or inform students of dance. Some examples: methods of improving technique, a "how-to" for a particular skill, ways to enhance performance, words of encouragement or inspiration, advice on dealing with problems dancers/students face, etc. The possibilities are endless!
- Do I have to be a teacher to participate? No, anyone can join in. Students can learn from each other. Perhaps a teacher's assistant can share what they've learned from their experience or a student could share how they deal with disappointment when casting doesn't go his/her way. Performers can also share their thoughts with students - describe your path from student to professional, share auditioning tips or things you wish you'd known as a young dancer, or describe how taking class plays a role in your current career. I only ask that all posts be presented in a positive and supportive manner.
- My blog is for my studio or business, am I still able to participate? Yes, the more the merrier. This is a great way to share what you do with my readers and visa versa.
- Will my entire post appear on your blog? No, I am simply providing a link to YOUR article on YOUR blog. In return, you are helping me to spread the word about the event by posting about it on your blog before August 19, and again in your submitted article. Here is an example of a similar thon for which dance movies were the theme. This is where I got the idea, actually (thanks Marilyn!).
I hope this clarifies the goals of this event and answers any questions you may have. If I've neglected anything, feel free to ask away in the comments section of this post. And, don't forget to rsvp for the event here. Once you've written and published your submission, contact me with the link.
