In the Mood for Something New?

When taking open classes in New York City, sometimes it's so tiring to show up early, warm up, and claim a "good" spot at the barre, just to find that you are one of about 80 (or so it seems) who have beat you to it.  The classes are often overcrowded, especially in the morning during prime time, and it's hard enough to find a place to stand, never mind any personal attention from the teacher.  In no way am I suggesting a semi-private lesson, but perhaps, some newer, spacious studios with different teachers to spice up the every day class routine.

The Manhattan Movement & Arts Center (otherwise known as MMAC) has recently opened it doors on 248 W 60th Street, with unobstructed studio spaces, state of the art floors and sound systems, and a theater space which can be rented out.  The Ribbon Cutting Event on June 26th marked the opening of Manhattan's largest dance studios.  The brain child of both Executive Artistic Director, Rose Caiola, and Managing Artistic Director, Francois Perron, will house the Manhattan Youth Ballet (formerly Studio Maestr), as well as a large variety of open classes and other arts-related disciplines.

Open classes will begin September 8th, costing around $15/per class.  Taught by well known instructors, the schedule includes everything from the usual choices like ballet, jazz, and tap, to the unusual aerial and ethnic dance. This may serve as another option for all those dancers who are on the constant search for open classes.  A ballet academy, a versatile performance theater, and open classes all in one could make for a paragon of space and convenience for dance training in the City.

Brand new and ready for trial, MMAC seems to have all the fixings for an alternative option to your usual dance studio.
