I know I said a dancer a day, so please allow me to apologize as the last few days have been very hectic and I have not been able to post.  Today allow me to introduce Missy, a bikram yoga addict/candy eating/math loving member of BEings.

Missy Wujek grew up dancing at The Dance Center in LaSalle, Illinois.

Her training there began at age 3 under the guidance of Vicky and Shannon Benac.  In her hometown, Missy was a competition kid as well as performing in The Nutcracker for many years.  After her first trip to New York to take class at Broadway Dance Center, she knew that is what she wanted to do.  Missy attended New York University and was a member of the NYU Dance Team.  She was accepted into the Joffrey Ballet School summer intensive program and continued her training there after its completion as well as completing the renowned Intern Program at Broadway Dance Center.  She  is also currently an assistant for Broadway Dance Centers Children and Teen Program and is also a member of Handcart Dance Company.  She is thrilled to be working with BEings!

How old were you when you started dancing? When I started in actual dance classes I was 3, but was dancing around the studio, The Dance Center LaSalle, IL, before that when my sisters had classes

Where are you originally from? Peru, IL

What is your worst style? Hip Hop, although I could hold my own on  the NYU dance team in the hip hop portion, but I would not say that is real hip hop

What was your first professional dance job? dancing for Handcart

What did your least favorite dance costume look like? I had to do a character dance to an Annie Medley one year for competition, wig and all. I would tear the wig off the second I got off stage. Second least favorite were the pleather pants we wore for College Dance Team Nationals my junior year at NYU (however we did win that year so someone must like pleather)

If you were not a dancer, what would you be? Well currently I actually have a "normal" adult job doing Application Development for Western Union Payment Services. But if I was not doing that or dancing I would probably be teaching dance or math (yes mom I said teaching Math!!)

What is your favorite dance moment? It is a toss up. One choice would be the first time Liz and I won top duet at Star Systems. Second favorite would be winning Nationals at NDA. It is such a rush to share something that big with 18 of your best friends

What is your favorite/least favorite dance step? Favorite step, probably any big jumps (except switch leaps, which ironically are my least favorite dance step) another favorite are any kind of kick or extension.

Who would you say has been your biggest dance influence? Shannon Argubright (formerly Benac) and Sheila Barker.

What is the name of your first dance teacher? Vicky Benac

Favorite ice cream flavor: Not a fan of ice cream but Pinkberry green tea is def a favorite cold treat

Favorite movie: Hmm that is a tough one, normally anything with Denzel Washington or any dance movie. At Christmas time though, White Christmas is played pretty regularly

Favorite band/singer: Haha, not going to lie, I am a Celine Dion fan but there are so many favorites I have that it would take forever to list them. It really depends on my mood. Some favorites are Missy Higgins, MeShell Ndegeocello, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson. Honestly pretty much anything but country.

Saying Hi

Hey Missy! It's so good to see you here on the blog. You had me laughing at the pleather pants. Man, what were we thinking?! Good luck with the company. It looks like it's going to be great!
