The Motor City Tap Festival runs June 26-29, 2008

For loyal tap enthusiasts, the summer time means strapping on those shoes and shuffling off to the many tap festivals happening across the country.  After an extended absence from the scene, the city of Detroit is revving up once again with the 1st Annual Motor City Tap Festival.  The event runs from June 26-29th at the Detroit Marriott in the historic Renaissance Center.  Dr. Prince Spencer, original member of "The Four Step Brothers," headlines a faculty that includes Bril Barrett, Diane "Lady Di" Walker, Gregg Russell, and Robert L. Reed.  The weekend features a series of master classes, tap jams, and an All-Star Faculty Concert.

Under the inspired guidance of Director Denise Caston, Motor City Dance Productions is bringing tap back to Detroit with the 1st Annual Motor City Tap Festival.  Having worked as a Radio City Rockette, Caston knows a little something about keeping things in line and is using that knowledge to spearhead a tap dance revival in Detroit.  The goal of the Motor City Tap Fest is to educate the next generation of aspiring dancers about the rich history of this uniquely indigenous American art form through master classes, panel discussions, and professional concerts.  Having attracted some of the biggest names in tap, The Motor City Tap Festival is inspiring a new generation of tap dancers in a town with a rich rhythmic history.
