The Redesign of Dancer Magazine
The upcoming July issue of Dancer Magazine will be like nothing you have ever seen from us before. Not only do our writers and photographers show you the exotic reaches of world dance, but Dancer itself has undergone something of a facelift.
Needless to say, my honest opinions and insight got me the job.
My inspiration for the redesign comes from many sources as well as my own background and training (I grew up dancing, but quit in high school to pursue art, and ended up graduating from Parsons School of Design). Of course I would be remiss if I did not mention my design idol, Paula Scher, who has created a myriad of work related to dance, namely, the original posters for Bring in da Noise, Bring in da Funk, identity and posters for Ballet Tech and more recently, the redesign for the New York City Ballet. Overall, I really wanted to create the best, most inspirational dance magazine around. Dancer really has an interesting perspective in that we cover every kind of dance from the perspective of the teacher; each month is a new opportunity to tell a story about a different kind of movement. The new look for Dancer is modern, clean, with a slight edge to it. I really hope that you all enjoy the July issue as much as I did creating it. This is only the beginning!
All my best,
Lizzie
