Who Taps Best With Brushes and Sticks?
Props are tough for a tap dancer - they can add all sorts of rhythmic and visual appeal, but they can also distract both the dancer and the audience from what's happening at floor level. Fred Astaire was, of course, a genuis at using props, as the clip below shows. Still - there are a few modern dancers who can give him a run for his money. Who do you think is best in the prop department?
Here's Tom Chambers doing the same sequence. What do you think? Does he stand a chance against Fred?
And, for a bit of variety, here's Fred with George Burns and Gracie Allen using brushes in a slightly different - but still rhythmic - manner. George and Gracie were known for their comedy vaudeville act, including their famous sign-off, "Say goodnight, Gracie." "Goodnight, Gracie." George also hit it big playing God in the film, "Oh, God!"
