Tap Jams - Find One Near You

Tap jams are a great way to improve your performance and improvisational skills.  Not only do you get to show off your own skills in public (which is very different than dancing in your own studio on your own), you can steal steps from the other dancers.  Hey, it's a tap tradition!

The problem lots of newbies have is finding a place to go.  Here are some suggestions, but feel free to add your own in the comments section!

Here are just a few jams that are currently out there.  Please feel free to add on more information as you find it!

Special event jams:

Heather Cornell hosts a tap jam in Berlin, Germany, on April 26, 2008.  Check out her website http://www.manhattantap.org/heather_solo.html for more dates and details.

Recurring jams:
New York Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards hosts a recurring open mic and tap jam on Mondays (see dates on www.divinerhythmproductions.com or www.harlemtap.com) in NYC at Camaradas Bar & Restaurant, 2241 First Avenue & 115th Street (www.camaradaselbarrio.com).

Hoofers' House, hosted by Jason Samuels Smith, is an ongoing quarterly series where some of the best of New York City's rhythm tap community come together to share and showcase their moves.  The event is at The Kitchen, 512 West 19th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues (see www.thekitchen.org).  Find dates on www.divinerhythmproductions.com.

Chicago Tappin' at the Shore, hosted by M.A.D.D. Rhythms, South Shore Cultural Center, Friday nights (see http://www.maddrhythms.com/tappin_at_the_shore.htm).

Los Angeles When they're in town, Jason Samuels Smith and Chloe Arnold host Monday night jams at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, 3623 Hayden Ave, Culver City (debbieallendanceacademy.com).

Chelsea Studios (New York City) tap jam

I've found out that Chelsea Studios (on West 26th between 6th and 7th in New York City) is hosting a tap jam on May 3. I don't know if it's recurring, but I'm sure you can check.  The jam is sponsored by the members of C3 Tap Cooperative (www. myspace. com/c3newyorktapcooperative).
