Mario Lopez is Broadway Bound!

On March 4, A Chorus Line producer John Breglio announced that Mario Lopez will be joining the cast of the famed Broadway revival starting April 15.

The Dancing with the Stars finalist is set to play Zach, the show's impossibly demanding director, a role he feels perfectly suited for.

"Every actor dreams about appearing on a Broadway stage," Lopez stated. "I have as well, and have been searching for the right time and opportunity."

Lopez revealed to Extra that his singing abilities had always held him back from making his Broadway dream a reality - until now. When the producers offered him the role of Zach, he said, "He doesn't necessarily have to sing. I said, 'Alright, that's my guy!'"

But he will have to dance, a skill he has already proven he excels at.

"Mario is an enormously talented actor and dancer and we are thrilled to have him make his Broadway debut in A Chorus Line," stated producer Breglio. "His talents and charm will transfer beautifully to the Broadway stage."

Mario's Broadway debut is scheduled to run through September 7 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.

booo

I heard about it and instantly in my head said "BOOOOOO" Broadway has become this place for soap opera actors and b-list celebs to pretend they are still current. Clay AIken in Spamalot? Now Mario Lopez in A Chorus Line. Who's next? Danny Pintauro as Mary Poppins?

I Second That

Boo is right. I think Broadway really started its downward spiral when Ashlee Simpson was cast in Chicago. It's sad that selling names, b-list names at that, is more important than producing good, quality theater.

boo hiss

Ashlee Simpson was only in Chicago in London. Broadway went downhill years before her jig started.

good quality theater

two new shows we should all go see:

Patti Lupone in Gypsy featuring the original choreography of Jerome Robbins

The new revival of Sunday In The Park With George. No dance in this one but it's amazing.
