Do dancers go to college?

You bet they do!  That's always my answer.  Not all dancer's will take the traditional route of going to college right after high school.  Some might decide to take a "gap" year to audition for companies and shows and generally see if they can make the cut at that point.  For others the "gap" year might turn into years while they dance in a company or are cast professionally  moving from show to show or video to video.  But dancers are bright, intelligent beings who enjoy challenging their mind to expand to new levels of thinking....

I mean, think about it.  The study of dance has already given them knowledge of kinesiology (the scientific study of the anatomy, physiology, and mechanics of body movement)physics and mathematics.  It certainly develops social awareness and interpersonal skills so whether you are aware of it or not, as a dancer learning your craft, you are already  on your way to "higher education!"

At US Performing Arts we are very much about the development of dancers' (and other performers') technical skill but we are also a big proponent in creating longevity in your art form through better training and increased education.  I hope you'll read my blog posted on www.usperformingarts.com as well as the ones I look forward to writing here.
