Jacob's Pillow Announces Important Dates for the 2009 Season.

This Year's Cultural Traditions Program at The School at Jacob's Pillow will Focus on Hip-Hop

Jacob's Pillow Dance, a world-renowned international dance center and National Historic Landmark located in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, announces key dates for the 2009 Festival season, professional advancement programs at The School at Jacob's Pillow, and summer internships.  

The Festival:
Every year, the Pillow's Executive Director Ella Baff presents companies from around the world in programs that feature a wide variety of dance forms, live music, and world and United States premieres of works and companies.  In addition to ticketed performances, the annual Festival features more than 200 free performances, talks, and events that are open to the public.   The Pillow's 77th season kicks off with the annual Season Opening Gala on Saturday, June 20, an evening of celebration filled with dance.   The Festival runs through August 30, 2009.  Tickets traditionally go on sale to the public in early April; Jacob's Pillow Members and Subscribers receive early ordering privileges.

The School at Jacob's Pillow:
The School at Jacob's Pillow provides professional advancement opportunities for dancers by bringing together distinguished international artists to serve as faculty for five distinct programs.  Anna-Marie Holmes, Milton Myers, and Chet Walker return as program directors.  Rennie Harris directs a program focused on hip-hop; and Annie-B Parson and Paul Lazar, co-artistic directors of Big Dance Theater, direct the choreography program. In additional to professional classes and rehearsals, program participants have access to the wealth of resources available on the Pillow's historic campus including Festival performances, master classes, scholar-led talks, exhibitions, and study in the extensive Archives.  Alumni of The School at Jacob's Pillow include Royal Danish Ballet artistic director Nikolaj Hubbe; choreographer Mia Michaels; and recent winner of FOX's So You Think You Can Dance, Joshua Allen.  Detailed program information, faculty, auditions, and application guidelines can be found at http://www.jacobspillow.org/school/school.asp.  Scholarship support is available.

Summer Internships at Jacob's Pillow:

Jacob's Pillow announces that the residency dates for this season's summer internships are May 26 through September 3, 2009. During this time interns live and work in a diverse community of artists, faculty, students, and staff. Interns work intensively in every facet of the festival with professional staff.   Thirty-one interns will be selected to assist 12 departmental areas, ranging from administrative, photography, operations, technical theatre, and video. The Pillow provides all interns with professional on-the-job training, seminars led by staff, a $500 stipend, a $150 expense allowance, free on-campus housing, and three meals a day.  Jacob's Pillow internships are on-the-job professional training and development experiences designed to enhance career-building skills through real-work projects and responsibilities.  Interns have opportunities to attend Festival performances, community dance classes, master classes, cast parties and many other Festival events.   Detailed application information can be found at http://www.jacobspillow.org/home/summer-internships.asp.    Applications will be accepted through March 2; however applications received by February 6 will receive priority consideration.
