Ailey Photos in NYC Gallery

"Firebird" By Andrew Eccles at the June Kelly Gallery

In honor of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's 50th anniversary, there have been some special events prepared for the celebration.  A compilation of photographs will be on exhibit in New York City beginning today through December 9th, showcasing the style, strength, and sheer muscularity of the Ailey dancers.

At the June Kelly Gallery in Manhattan, renowned photographer Andrew Eccles took a series of stunning photos called "Ailey Ascending".  Eccles has photographed celebrities, dancers, athletes, and musicians, as well as gracing the covers of many magazines like, Rolling Stones, Vanity Fair and The New York Times Magazine.  He is also the camera man behind movie posters for Pirates of the Carribean: At Worlds End, Step Up, and Semi-Pro, just  to name a few.

With a vast repertory of work, the photos of the Ailey dancers are breathtaking, capturing precise studio and performance moments with the refinement of the detailed images.  This will be an exhibit not to be missed.  The photographs are also available in the book "Ailey Ascending: A Portrait in Motion" available to purchase.
