Micheal Jackson Celebrated Around The World Through Dance

The King of Pop

The King of Pop

In the wake of the suprising death of The King of Pop, what is perhaps even more surprising is the uprising of fans who have gathered in the street, forming flash mobs and celebrating in the streets. Online videos from around the world have begun pouring in showing people singing, dancing, crying, smiling and mourning a man who shared his great talent with the world. Videos after the jump.

This is just a sampling of a few of the videos that have come in. Even today as I walked the streets of midtown Manhattan, stores kept blasting "Beat It" and passers by couldn't help but smile, and some even boogied a little.

There is perhaps no other more polarizing figure, no bigger celebrity, no one more iconic in our generation, and no one that has influenced dance and music in the past 30 years than Michael Jackson. I am glad that in the end, people are celebrating his music, his talent, and his dancing rather than his shortcomings, follies, and the dark side that many either denied or ridiculed. He became a tragic figure, unable to match his one time enormous fame under the twisted mask he wore. RIP Michael. I hope you're moonwalking in heaven.
