Welcome to the Groovaloos Blog!
Hello everyone!
It's Shooz, founder of The Groovaloos dance group. Welcome to my blog on all things Groovaloo! Really excited to fill you in on all that's happening with us and to hear your input and answer any questions you may have. I'll be writing a blog on a weekly basis so check back often to get your Groovaloos fix!
More after the jump!
As a quick background, The Groovaloos are a group of some the most visible dancers in the industry, having attained the highest levels of commercial achievement in the craft. Individual credits range from Madonna to Miley Cyrus and from Step Up 2 to America's Best Dance Crew, and you may have seen us as a group on So You Think You Can Dance, The Ellen Show or SuperStars of Dance. More importantly these dancers are my friends and some of the coolest people I know. We all came together from a genuine love of freestyle dance and I'll be introducing you to various members week to week so check back for
that.
As some of you know we have been successfully developing a theatrical stage show entitled GROOVALOO over the past few years. We've had great runs in Los Angeles and Orange County, receiving rave reviews and grabbing the attention of celebrities such as Madonna, Pink, Laurence Fishburne, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jaime Pressly, and Justin Timberlake who have all come to see versions of our show. As interest has grown and with our added championship win on SuperStars of Dance earlier this year we are now preparing to tour the country with our largest production to date! This is especially exciting for us as GROOVALOO is based on the true stories of the group members, all the ups and downs, and in that way strives to represent the true heart of the hip hop art form and dance in general. I'll reveal more details of the stories within the show week to week, but just know that from choreography to freestyle, and ballerina's to b-boys, GROOVALOO covers it all. I'm biased of course but trust me, you will love the powerful way we tell our story of hope, struggle and triumph through the dynamics of dance, spoken word poetry and music. The details of our tour will be on our website and myspace pages but as a heads up we will be playing at The El Portal Theater this August 21st - 30th in Los Angeles, and we make our New York debut September 15th - 27th at The Joyce Theater!
There is plenty going on between now and our tour and there are a lot of Groovaloos who are into just about everything. Ten members are in New York filming Step Up 3D, four members were featured including a co-starring role in the new feature, "Dance Flick," eight of us will be making special appearances up in Canada, six of the members are part of the BeatFreaks, two are members of The JabbaWockeez, plus one in SupaCr3w, and we have b-boys judging hip hop events and jams from Australia to Rome, so we'll be popping up all over the place (more on all that later!)
I'll wrap up this first blog for now. I hope you will stay posted and in the meantime check out our website. Don't forget to sign up on the mailing lists and twitter as well! Look forward to hearing from you!
Keep Groovin'!
