Learn Repertoire by the Great Masters of Dance

Where can you learn works from Fosse, Balanchine, Mark Morris, Swan Lake and more, all in one day, all in one place? At Tapestry Dance Company, who is presenting "A Day With The Masters" on April 18, 2009 at their expansive South Austin studio space. More info after the jump.

Not just another master class, TDC has put together a full day of classes consisting of beloved classic repertoire, taught by pros who have performed (and in some cases originated) these roles around the world.

The day will begin with a series of three-hour sessions in multiple disciplines for Intermediate and advanced dancers, and conclude with two hour sessions in genres from ballet to hip hop for dancers of all levels. Lunch will be offered at the studio.

"Tapestry's mission is to share the power of dance," said Victoria Osborne, President of the TDC Board of Directors. "What better way to fulfill our mission than to share these classic works with the Austin community? We are very excited to have such a diverse and experienced family of artists, and I know that they are thrilled to share these works with the larger family of Austin dancers."

The day has 15 total sessions, and individual classes begin at $40. A full day of dance)including lunch and a t-shirt) is only $100 - for a priceless experience.

The day's faculty and programming are as follows:

"Classic Fosse" taught by Renata Sanford. Renata studied extensively with Bob Fosse, and co-directed / co-choreographed (with her husband Lathan Sanford) premiere performances of "Sweet Charity" throughout the US and Japan.  Renata is a long-time faculty member of the St. Edwards University Dance Department, and is an active member of the Cecchetti Council of America, Internationall.

Balanchine's "Symphony in C, 1st Movement" will be taught by Grace Maduell Holmes. Grace's repertoire includes works spanning classical and modern, including ballets by Balanchine, Tudor, & McKayle. She was a soloist with the New Orleans Ballet, the San Francisco Ballet, and the Birmingham Royal Ballet, England.

"The Miller Brothers" taught by Tapestry Dance Company members Matt Shields and Katelyn Harris, fresh off the TDC National Tour of "The Souls of Our Feet 2."

Contemporary Dance Theater led by Amanda Butterfield of the Yellow Tape Construction Company, and a Hip Hop Session "Move (If You Wanna)" by Mims, led by Kara Gossen who was awarded a Radio City Rockette Scholarship.

And that is only the beginning of this very exciting day! Afternoon sessions include classic rep from some of the world's best known ballet, modern and tap routines.
