The Lovely Vera Ellen
I was reminiscing about Hollywood's golden era of musicals (1940s and 50s) when I came across some videos of one of my personal favorites, the lovely and talented Vera Ellen. Too many people overlook Ellen's lithe, loose and lively energy: She was a sprite of a woman who truly lit up as she danced.
Ellen, who shared the screen with such legends as Fred Astaire, Gene Kelley, and Danny Kaye, couldn't be dimmed, even against their overwhelming brilliance. Check out this clip of her tapping alongside dancer John Brascia in a scene from "White Christmas" that's no glitz but all glamor. They just don't make 'em like that anymore...
