Gymnastics at the 2008 Olympics... According to Lindsay

The 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing have solidified one thing in my mind... that America produces some of the greatest athletes in the world!  While I enjoyed watching Michael Phelps make history during swimming and seeing Sanya Richards attempt to keep her first place lead in the 400 meter race, I felt myself particularly drawn to the women's gymnastics competition. The 2008 USA team moved me in the same way the Magnificent Seven did during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Violette et Mr. B

This film, Violette et Mr. B , is part of what seems like a really interesting series called Dominique Delouche: Ballet Cineaste, which will run from July 23 through July 27 at Lincoln Center's Walter Reade Theater.

There will be two screenings of Violette et Mr. B, one at 6pm on July 26 and the other at 2pm on July 27.

Matt Harding Makes the World his Backdrop

Between stalking celebrities for my job at Inside Edition and blogging for Dancer Universe, I practically LIVE on the internet... So why I hadn't stumbled across Matt Harding's famous dance moves until a few moments ago, I can't say. But now I have finally joined the almost 6 million others who have seen the Youtube video and I have to hand it to this guy - he might be a horrendous dancer, but he's probably one of the coolest guys in the entire world.

Dance and Film Summer Workshop

Hey Dancers! This morning, I received an email from dancer Marissa Sher, one of my former classmates at Barnard, about a really cool summer workshop called "Partnering with Camera" taught by Jody Oberfelder. She provided their official press release which I have copy and pasted for you below. It seems like a really interesting workshop, so check it out!

Partnering with Camera - Physical and Visual Imagination

At Bearnstow on Parker Pond

Taught by Jody Oberfelder
August 10-16, 2008

This workshop will explore how the interaction of camera and movement creates kinetic imagery. We will create dance films that will explore the relationships between movement and visual elements. We will work with physical imagination, storyboarding, and hands-on camera work, finding an individual vocabulary. Each day will include a physical morning class, followed by afternoons developing studies for film: investigating site-specific locations and choreographing for the camera to find the unique language of dance and film. All levels of experience are welcome. Video cameras recommended.
