Sleeping Beauty

Just one kiss. Be swept away as Carolina Ballet tells the classic fairytale story of Sleeping Beauty, re-imagined by Artistic Director Robert Weiss after original choreography by Marius Petipa and set to one of Tchaikovsky's greatest scores. Beautiful costumes and athletic jumps and turns - there's something for everyone in the family.
Six performance dates and times to choose from. Location: Raleigh Memorial Auditorium at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts at 2 E. South St. Raleigh, NC.

Second Annual New York City Dance Parade

On Saturday, May 17th, 2008 nearly 5,000 dancers will converge on the streets of New York City to celebrate dance for the Second Annual New York City Dance Parade.
Last year - the first-ever dance parade in New York - 50 styles of dance were celebrated down Broadway, from ancient forms to contemporary, from world cultures to local. Dance Parade is growing to become a NYC annual staple.
This year experience colorful floats, live bands and DJs creating a safe and exciting atmosphere to dance in the streets. Among the styles already registered for this year's parade: Ballet, Belly Dance, B-boy, Hip-Hop, House, Hustle, Modern, Mambo, Rumba, Salsa, Swing and more.

The Foothill Repertory Dance Company, directed by award-winning Director Bubba Gong, will present FIVE-0, a dance event celebrating Foothill College's 50th anniversary.
Gong will premiere four works: Dancing Mozart--The Marriage of Figaro provides the backdrop for a modern and whimsical celebration. Mississippi Memories, set to the music of Ray Charles, is a tribute to the victims of hurricane Katrina. Confessions of a Dancer: The Apassionata is a contemporary fusion of dance styles and music that explores conflict and the choices one makes on the journey to finding love. Fosse's World features favorite excerpts from the musical Sweet Charity.
The performance will be held at the Smithwick Theatre at Foothill College. Tickets: $30 Gen/$20 Group/$100 Patron Reserved. Box Office: 650-949-7360.
Carolina Jamboree

Part Broadway/Part Hoedown!
They're back together again! Broadway choreographer Lynne Taylor-Corbett and Tony-award winning string band The Red Clay Ramblers blend bluegrass and ballet for a foot-stomping good time.
Featuring works of North Carolina's premier potters in a special exhibit at all shows. Works will be for sale to benefit Carolina Ballet.
