« Return to Should Dance Be Considered a Sport in School?

Tricky area

The thing about the sport vs. activity vs. artform discussion that's not being said is that dancers seem to be suffering from identity crisis at the expense of the dance itself. Dancers are constantly, and rightfully so, complaining that they are considered the redheaded stepchild of the art world. On the other hand, they want to be considered a sport, but are not given the same respect as the basketball players. I think that in order for dance to be able to reach its full potential and define itself, its participants have to stop worrying about where they fit in. Instead, put all of your energy into being the best dancer you can be, and opening up people's minds to both the physical difficulty and artistic merit of the sport, activity, or artform you love.
